Donor Form with Tax ID

Last year, the SDA team again enjoyed an outstanding season including:

  • Varsity policy team advancing to elimination rounds at the 2011 NFL National Tournament in Dallas, Texas.
  • Varsity policy team receiving 9th place at the CHSSA California State Debate Tournament. 
  • Varsity policy team advancing to semifinals at the Fullerton Invitational and receiving the 1st place speaker award.  
  • Novice policy teams winning 1st and 2nd place at the Jack Howe Memorial Invitational and the Damien High School Tournament.
  • Three Speech competitors finishing in the top 5 of extemporaneous speech at the Golden Desert Invitational in Nevada.

Success does not happen in a vacuum though, and financial and time commitments are needed by everyone involved to ensure the program’s continued success.   Our Fundraising Goal for 2011/2012 is $20,000.  This will pay for the many expenses such as judging costs, subsidized travel costs, and tournament fees.  For example, there is a $75.00 fee for each student entry at each tournament.

Deep cutbacks in school funding requires contributions from families and the community to ensure that these talented and hardworking students have the required funding to persevere.


Here’s how you can help:

 A Gift of Cash                                            

        A gift of cash qualifies for a charitable income tax deduction.

Cash donations can be made by check (payable to SDAF), Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover. The easiest way to make your gift is by using our secure on-line system. The donate button will take you to the SDA Foundation Page. Click on the Academic Council, then specify that you would like your donation to go to Speech and Debate.

A Company-Matching Gift

Many employers match their employee’s donations to charitable organizations. This is a wonderful way to leverage your gift to the school.

Your company will have the proper forms and procedures to initiate the match. Call Sheila Durkin at 760-753-1121 ext 5085 (email) if you need help in determining whether your company has a matching gift program.

A Gift of Time

There are additional ways you can help the team in addition to your donation:

  • Sign up to judge at a tournament.   It’s fun, and training is provided!   Each team competing at a tournament is typically required to provide 1 judge for every 4 students, so the number of judges will determine the number of students that will be able to compete in tournaments. 
  • Provide snacks for home matches or help organize the SDA debate tournament.
  • Organize a fundraiser or get involved with grant writing.
